The artist: Mary Shelley, from Ithaca, NY, carves low reliefs from pine boards or basswood. Her work can be found at the Smithsonian Institute, the museum of American Folk Art, and the New York Historical Society. A graduate of Cornell University, she worked as a house painter and a carpenter before she taught herself wood carving.
This is her first three dimensional piece.
