 Very rare and original, 1936 Large Size Coca-Cola Advertising Calendar (with complete, original Calendar Pad) featuring an N. C. Wyeth painting depicting and “Old Salt” Sailor and a little girl enjoying 8 ounce bottles of Coke. The Calendar is known as the “Sailor & Girl" and is similar in design to the Calendars and Advertising Trays produced with Norman Rockwell images from the same period. This Calendar was issued to Commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Coca-Cola and is in fantastic, original condition! This charming, original, 1936 Coca-Cola Advertising Calendar measures approx. 12” by 25" including its complete, original calendar pad. It retains the original tin strip at the top edge and the original tin hanger at the center of that strip. This very rare and highly sought after, 1936 Coca -Cola Calendar features one of the N. C. Wyeth’s paintings commissioned by Coca-Cola and used in the late 1920's and 1930's to illustrate Calendars, Advertising Trays, Postcards, Blotters, Print Advertisements, etc. This image pictures a Sailor with a white beard seated on the edge of a small boat that rest on the ocean shore. He holds an 8 ounce bottle of Coke in his left hand and appears to be enjoying his drink. A little girl stands in the foreground facing the Sailor in what appears to be rapt attention. She holds a bottle of Coke and is drinking her soda through a straw. The Image is signed in the plate by the artist - N. C. Wyeth – and is marked "Copyright Coca-Cola Co. 1935" and also marked “Lithographed in the U.S.A.”. Text below the Image reads “Through All the Yeards Since 1886”. Further text above the Calendar pad reads “1886 – 1936” and “Fiftieth Anniversary”. There is a 50th Anniversary “Medallion” printed on the cover sheet of the Calendar Pad. This very rare and charming, original 1936 Coca-Cola Advertising Calendar is in excellent+ condition. The Calendar is intact and complete retaining the full, original calendar pad and the original tin strip and hanger at the top edge. There is no physical damage or repairs of any kind – no tears, chips, edge wear or creases. The surface is clean and crisp with no staining or significant soiling of any kind. There is just a hint of light toning to the cover sheet of the Calendar Pad but otherwise the Calendar is without flaw!! A very rare, original Large Size, 1936 N. C.  eBay For sale is an original 1950s COCA-COLA STAINLESS STEEL ICE CHEST COOLER made by Action Manufacturing Company, Kansas City, Kansas. This cooler is in excellent condition with minor dents and wear consistent with age. The cooler has the original carry handle and the side bottle cap opener. This cooler is marked with a patent number D-152580 which was filed on Feb. 8, 1949. The cooler stands about 14 inches tall, 12 inches wide, and 9 inches deep. This authentic piece of Americana is first rate coca cola collectible. On May 8, 1886, Dr. John Pemberton brought his perfected syrup to Jacobs' Pharmacy in downtown Atlanta where the first glass of Coca?Cola was poured. John Pemberton concocted the Coca Cola formula in a three legged brass kettle in his backyard. The name was a suggestion given by John Pemberton's bookkeeper Frank Robinson.Being a bookkeeper, Frank Robinson also had excellent penmanship. It was he who first scripted "Coca Cola" into the flowing letters which has become the famous logo of today.The soft drink was first sold to the public at the soda fountain in Jacob's Pharmacy in Atlanta on May 8, 1886.About nine servings of the soft drink were sold each day. Sales for that first year added up to a total of about $50. The funny thing was that it cost John Pemberton over $70 in expanses, so the first year of sales were a loss.Until 1905, the soft drink, marketed as a tonic, contained extracts of cocaine as well as the caffeine-rich kola nut.By the late 1890s, Coca-Cola was one of America's most popular fountain drinks. With another Atlanta pharmacist, Asa Griggs Candler, at the helm, the Coca-Cola Company increased syrup sales by over 4000% between 1890 and 1900. Advertising, was an important factor in Pemberton and Candler's success and by the turn of the century, the drink was sold across the United States and Canada. Around the same time, the company began selling syrup to independent bottling companies licensed to sell the drink. Even today, the US soft drink industry is organized on this principle.Until the 1960s, both small town and big city dwellers enjoyed carbonated beverages at the local soda fountain or ice cream saloon. Often housed in the drug store, the soda fountain counter served as a meeting place for people of all ages. Often combined with lunch counters, the soda fountain declined in popularity as commercial ice cream, bottled soft drinks, and fast food restaurants came to the fore.On April 23, 1985, the trade secret "New Coke" formula was released.
